As the demand on the volunteer base in our communities continues to increase, the number of volunteers available has continued to not meet the ever-growing needs. Where this can be attributed to many things, one that cannot be ignored is the lack of today’s youth taking up the mantle of volunteerism in their communities. This is where our non-profit Minnesota MILE (Motivating and Inspiring Leadership & Excellence) fits in, with a mission to identify and develop youth volunteers and leaders throughout the state of Minnesota. For the past 14 years, MILE has made it its mission to develop youth leaders, promote volunteerism and send these leaders back to their own communities to make a difference.
Where MILE has been successful re-invigorating volunteerism in youth throughout our state, we struggle – like many other non-profits – in obtaining the funding necessary to keep our program going now and into the future. Minnesota MILE is a 100% volunteer-driven organization that exists based on the generosity of our volunteers’ time and our donors’ financial support. It takes approximately $200 per student to attend our summer seminar and we pay for 100% of this through the kindness of donations. Fundraising has become increasingly challenging to meet our financial obligations for the annual leadership seminar.
We are sad to announce that there will be no 2018 seminar this year. We are actively working on a plan for 2019 and beyond. We appreciate all of the support from schools over the years, and the opportunity to meet with your students. We will be updating our website as well as reaching out with any more information.
